Residui cancerogeni in bibite analcoliche: Pepsi, Kraft, Coca-Cola Co e Cadbury Schweppes in tribunale

15 anni fa, la FDA (la massima autorita' Statunitense di salute pubblica) e l'industria delle bevande analcoliche Americana, scoprirono che la presenza di acidoascorbico e sodio benzoato fra gli ingredienti delle bibite analcoliche, poteva produrre benzene, una sostanza altamente cancerogena, i cui livelli nell'acqua potabile sono fissati a 10 ppb dalla World Health Organization (organismo mondiale della sanita'). A quel tempo furono trovati livelli di benzene di svariate volte superiori ai limiti che il WHO fissa per l'acqua potabile Ebbene, la transazione fu conclusa senza tanto clamore fra i due soggetti, civilmente potremmo dire, in virtù di un accordo secondo il quale l'industria delle bevande analcoliche avrebbe rivisto scrupolosamente i propri protocolli di produzione cosi' da evitare la formazione del citato benzene. Questo doveva valere ovviamente per ogni paese nel quale le stesse formulazioni, a base di acido ascorbico e benzoati, vengono prodotte e commercializzate.

Febbraio-Marzo 2006: Agli inizi dell'anno in alcune bevande analcoliche presenti sul mercato britannico e' stato rilevato un livello di benzene 8 volte superiore ai limiti fissati dal WHO. Nel frattempo un portavoce dell'industria inglese delle bevande analcoliche ha escluso che la soglia, che fa riferimento alle "acque potabili" possa essere riferita anche alle bevande analcoliche, ed ha quindi escluso di prendere provvedimenti immediati.

Maggio 2006: Pepsi, Kraft, Coca-Cola Co e Cadbury Schweppes sono trascinate in tribunale (nel Massachuset, in Florida e California) da cause collettive (in Italia ancora non esistono, si attende che le promesse di Bersani trovini una loro concretezza) che chiederanno rimborsi milionari alle società(centinaia di millioni), per aver danneggiato il sistema sanitario degli Stati citati, ed aver creato condizioni tali da aumentare il rischio di insorgenza di tumori nella popolazione proprio a causa del benzene nelle bevande analcoliche commercializzate da questi colossi dell'industria alimentare.

In Gran Bretagna e negli Stati Uniti la questione sta creando un bello scompiglio, mentre in Italia, dove le condizioni di produzione sono assollutamente analoghe, non e' comparso un solo trafiletto su alcun giornale (in Marzo le redazioni del Manifesto, Liberazione e Repubblica, informate della notizia, non hanne ritenuto opportuno approfondire o divulgare).

E mentre l'UE stanzia 15 mil € per uno studio sulle cause ambientali dei tumori in età infantile, attraverso uno dei suoi programmi di ricerca che si esaurira' nei prossimi 5 anni, sul nostro territorio circolano milioni di bottigliette con contenuto potenzialmente cancerogeno, che nessuno si preoccupa di controllare: attendiamo che le industri alimentari adeguino i loro protocolli, o che finiscano le attuali scorte prima di cambiare formulazioni?

Una domanda da porre al Ministro della Sanita' ed a chi ha a cuore la salute pubblica.
